To us, celebrities look like people who might be immortal. But illness and death come for everyone. Celebrities have entertained us on-screen and off-screen but the problems they have to go through are often unknown to the common public. On-screen we have celebrities who have to play heroes but in real life being a hero is very difficult. Although these celebrities do everything they can to stay fit and healthy, sometimes luck is not in one's favour. Here is a list of Indian celebrities who had to battle serious illnesses.
Irrfan Khan is one of the greatest Bollywood actors out there. The actor has impressed us on the silver screen for quite a few years. Recently it was reported that the actor had been diagnosed with jaundice. But now, as per latest news, it is being reported that Irrfan has been diagnosed with a rare disease. The actor had taken to his Twitter account to confirm the same, while at the same time also stating that he was trying to battle it out as best as he can. Well, we can only hope for a speedy recovery for the actor.
Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala was undoubtedly a Queen back in her day. Her stellar acting skills had left everyone impressed. On 29th November 2012, it was reported that the actress had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She then underwent surgery for the same on 10th December. Luckily for her, the surgery was a success. The actress battled one of the most serious illnesses known to man and emerged a hero on top. Since then Manisha has been cancer free.
Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh certainly has a huge fan following owing to his stellar sports skills. In 2011, the cricketer was playing for the World Cup where he won the Player of the Tournament award. But unfortunately, he also had bouts of blood vomiting, nausea and breathing issues. After the tournament, he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left lung (stage 1) and underwent chemotherapy in the USA. Luckily for him, he recovered and then returned to India in March 2012. Yuvraj was even a part of a cricket tournament in 2012.
Bollywood's megastar Amitabh Bachchan was in a serious accident while shooting an action scene for Coolie in July, 1982. He had lost a lot of blood and the impact had apparently ruptured his spleen. In fact, he was even pronounced clinically dead, but he managed to recover from the accident completely. Later on, in 1984, he was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a disease which makes one physically and mentally weak. His state of mind and body left him in depression. But being the megastar that he is, he overcame the odds and is still working in Bollywood like a boss.
Saif Ali Khan is yet another Indian celebrity who had to overcome a major struggle with illness. In 2007, the actor complained of chest pain and was then rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra. Once there, doctors confirmed that he had suffered a minor heart attack. Heart troubles are genetic in Saif's family but little did he know he would suddenly have to suffer because of it. But the actor owned the situation completely and recovered from the trauma. Today he's still hale and hearty.
