Five days ago, one of the most awaited films, Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh finally hit theatres. Today, the film is basking in praise and box office success! The movie fared phenomenally on its opening weekend and broke many records. Apart from it being a commercial success, the movie has been lauded for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s grand vision, hard-hitting story, and detailed characters. After facing severe threats and bans, the film is now relishing its success. One look at the film and it’s not hard to tell that a lot of work went into making this magnum opus. Apart from erecting grand sets, painstaking effort went into creating the look for the characters. Here are a few pictures that reveal the arduous yet incredible transformation of Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor into epic characters – Alauddin Khilji and Maharawal Ratan Singh
Ranveer Singh, as Alauddin Khilji, was maniacal, eccentric and plain crazy. The intention was to reflect his freakish personality. The kohl-lined eyes created the right drama and showed us the malevolent side of the actor. The bruises, distant-gazed look further added to his outlandish character. As for Shahid Kapoor, this was the first time he was playing a royal character. His makeover was drastic, the blood stained face was a look created for the dungeon sequence scene when the king was kept captive. Both looks gave off intense vibes and fit in perfectly with story. Hats off to Preeti Sheel for these incredible transformations. As for Deepika, she was a sight to behold in all the finery. The unibrow added a new dimension to the look. Her stature and striking face made her one of the most intimidating queens.
