Deepika Padukone is definitely on cloud nine with the splendid performance of Padmaavat at the domestic box office. In just 10 days, the magnum opus has raked in Rs 212.50 crore and has crushed the lifetime business of Bollywood biggies like 3 Idiots (Rs 203 crore), Happy New Year (Rs 205 crore), Golmaal Again (Rs 205.69 crore) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 207 crore). The costume drama has already become the highest grosser for lead actors, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Coming to Deepika Padukone, Padmaavat is currently her second biggest grosser after Chennai Express (Rs 227 crore). So if you are a fan of the actress and her latest film, it is indeed great news for you all because by tomorrow or day after, the film will overtake Chennai Express to become Deepika Padukone’s highest grosser of all time. In fact, looking at the current scenario, the film might even manage to enter the Rs 250 crore club in its third weekend at the box office. With Padmaavat, Deepika has become the only actress to have three Rs 200 crore films. Talking about her other milestones, the actress has seven Rs 100 crore films including Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Race 2 and Bajirao Mastani.
Director SLB’s Padmaavat is one of the most expensive films of Bollywood, made on a lavish budget of Rs 180 crore. The makers also spent additional Rs 20 crore for converting the prints into 3D and the IMAX format.
Produced under the banners of Sanjay Leela Bhansali productions and Viacom 18, the film also features Raza Murad, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Anupriya Goenka in pivotal roles. Padmaavat, which has had to face a lot of troubles to secure a release, has emerged as a box office winner and by looking at its collections, all we can say is that the hard work has paid off well.
